Diwali - Festival of Lights

India is a country of Festivlals. Diwali or Deepavali is one of the national festival of India. I am sure every Indian wait for Diwali, whole year as it brings joy & happiness to all of them, irrespective of the relegion. People do the annual cleaning of the houses as per their convenience. It is a common thought in the Hindus that on this day the goddess of money "Laxmi" will arrive in their house, if they keep it clean. People decorate their houses & use small oil lamps "Diya"& candles all around their house. Then they exchange sweets & dryfruits with relatives & freinds. After that the whole night is spent in fire the crackers. This produces lot of pollution & this night is specially difficult for the asthematic patients. I would like to share a storey for the best diwali celebration. A long ago, there was a king of an Indian state, who announced a reward for the person who will decorate his house in the best way on the occassion of Diwali. Then on diwali night he took a round of his state with his ministers & other emloyees, he was vary happy to see the decorations of the houses, it was difficult for him to decide which one is the best, suddenly he saw one hut belongs to a poor old lady, there was no light in the hut, but there was one mud lamp producing some light about 200 meters away from the hut. Kings reached to the old lady and asked her why she has kept that mud lamp away from her house, are you aware of my announcement. She replied that she is poor & can not afford even two mud lamps, & when she saw a broken road close to her hut, she kept that mud lamp their to avoid the accidents. The king got happy to have the answere & understood the meaning of true decoration. Lets celebrate diwali like this, by spreading happiness, care & protection for others as well.
This year diwali will be celebrated on 28th of october 2008.
